Franklin – Trailer

Apple TV has released the first trailer for Franklin:

Franklin a new limited series starring and executive produced by Academy, Emmy and AFI Lifetime Achievement Award winner Michael Douglas, will premiere globally on Apple TV+ with the first three episodes of its eight-episode season on Friday, April 12, followed by one new episode every Friday through May 17, 2024.

Based on Pulitzer Prize winner Stacy Schiff’s book, “A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America,” “Franklin” explores the thrilling story of the greatest gamble of Benjamin Franklin’s career. In December 1776, Franklin is world famous for his electrical experiments, but his passion and power are put to the test when — as the fate of American independence hangs in the balance — he embarks on a secret mission to France.

At age 70, without any diplomatic training, Franklin convinced an absolute monarchy to underwrite America’s experiment in democracy. By virtue of his fame, charisma and ingenuity, Franklin outmaneuvered British spies, French informers and hostile colleagues to engineer the Franco-American alliance of 1778 and the peace treaty with England in 1783. The eight-year French mission stands as Franklin’s most vital service to his country, without which America could not have won the Revolution. Diplomats and historians still regard it as the greatest single tour of duty by an ambassador in our nation’s history.

The drama also stars Noah Jupe (“A Quiet Place”) as Temple Franklin, Thibault de Montalembert (“Call My Agent!”) as Comte de Vergennes, Daniel Mays (“Line of Duty”) as Edward Bancroft, Ludivine Sagnier (“Lupin”) as Madame Brillon, Eddie Marsan (“Ray Donovan”) as John Adams, Assaad Bouab (“Call My Agent!”) as Beaumarchais, Jeanne Balibar (“Irma Vep”) as Madame Helvetius and Theodore Pellerin (“There’s Someone Inside Your House”) as Marquis de Lafayette.

In addition to Douglas, the creative team includes Emmy and WGA Award-winning writer and executive producer Kirk Ellis, and Emmy, WGA and Pulitzer Prize Award-nominated writer and executive producer Howard Korder. Emmy and DGA Award-winning director Tim Van Patten serves as director and executive producer. Richard Plepler executive produces through EDEN Productions, Tony Krantz through Flame Ventures, and Philippe Maigret and Mark Mostyn also executive produce. Stacy Schiff also serves as co-executive producer. “Franklin” is a coproduction between ITV Studios America and Apple Studios.

Fisherman’s Friends – Trailer

The first trailer for Fisherman’s Friends was released today:

A fast-living, cynical London music executive (Danny Mays) heads to a remote Cornish village on a stag weekend where he’s pranked by his boss (Noel Clarke) into trying to sign a group of shanty singing fishermen (led by James Purefoy). He becomes the ultimate ‘fish out of water’ as he struggles to gain the respect or enthusiasm of the unlikely boy band and their families who value friendship and community over fame and fortune. As he’s drawn deeper into the traditional way of life he’s forced to re-evaluate his own integrity and ultimately question what success really means.

TRINIANS).

Swimming with Men – Official Trailer

The Independent has the exclusive first look at the official trailer for Swimming With Men:

The Independent says: Perhaps the best line of the trailer comes from Daniel Mays (Rogue One): “We’re just a bunch of middle-aged men who want to meet up in trunks that are too small for us, and make funny little patterns in a pool.”

A bittersweet British comedy packed with delightful performances, Swimming with Men – hailed ‘The Full Monty in speedos’ – is a winning comedy drama, with Rob Brydon excellent as a middle-aged man who stumbles across a rather unusual way to try and deal with the issues in his marriage.

Brydon plays Eric, an accountant whose life seems to be in order until in a moment of middle-aged madness he starts to think his wife, Heather (Jane Horrocks), is having an affair and he moves out of their home. He finds solace of sorts at the local swimming pool, where he ends up joining a team of similarly challenged men who form a male synchronized swimming team. Against all odds, they end up training for the world championships in Milan, with Eric hoping his wife will be impressed by his new skills.

Can their coach, Susan (Charlotte Riley), whip them into shape? Will they master the flower, the pyramid and the spinning circle in time? More importantly, can Eric win Heather back with the help of his newfound confidence? A smart and funny comedy, Swimming with Men features lovely performances from Jim Carter, Rupert Graves, Daniel Mays, Adeel Akhtar and Thomas Turgoose as would-be synchronised swimmers, all of whom are using the sport to deal with their own issues.

Swimming With Men has its UK premiere at the Edinburgh Film Fest on 1 July.  Some tickets are still available – Book tickets.

The film opens in UK cinemas on 6 July.

The Limehouse Golem – Trailer

TLG

Lionsgate UK has released the first trailer and cinema poster for The Limehouse Golem and it features Daniel Mays as George Flood:

The LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is a gothic murder mystery set in London’s dangerous Limehouse district in 1880. In the style of Se7en or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, it stars Bill Nighy, Olivia Cooke and Douglas Booth. Written by Jane Goldman (Kingsman, Kick-Ass, The Woman in Black), it is based on Peter Ackroyd’s novel ‘Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem’ and is directed by Juan Carlos Medina (Painless).

A series of gruesome and bloody murders have shaken the Limehouse community. So monstrous and ruthless are these crimes the press claim they’re the work of ‘The Golem’ – a legendary creature from dark times…

Confronted by a murderer of a yet unknown kind and with no genuine leads, the police put the relatively inexperienced Detective Inspector Kildare (Bill Nighy) on the case, a scapegoat for when the next victim surfaces.

Daniel Mays stars as George Flood along with Bill Nighy, Morgan Watkins, Douglas Booth, Olivia Cooke, and others.

The Limehouse Golem is released in UK cinemas on 1 September 2017 and 8 September 2017 in US cinemas and on demand.
