The Dumb Waiter at The Old Vic – Reviews

The reviews are coming in for The Dumb Waiter starring Daniel Mays and David Thewlis.

The New York Times: Serving Murder in “The Dumb Waiter”: The Old Vic’s production of the 50-minute one-act play is as polished as an assassin’s gun.

Guardian: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It takes theatrical alchemy – and talent – to turn a play as familiar as Harold Pinter’s 1957 two-hander into a drama as new and freshly dangerous as Jeremy Herrin’s revival here. That is partly down to the supreme skills of David Thewlis and (especially) Daniel Mays. Mays, meanwhile, is an utter marvel.

We are delighted to announce that after 5 years away from the stage, Daniel Mays has joined the cast of Harold Pinter’s The Dumb Waiter for The Old Vic’s return to in person theatre and In Camera Series! Performances are schedule for 7 – 10 July!

The Dumb Waiter

We send him up all we’ve got and he’s not satisfied. No, honest, it’s enough to make the cat laugh.’

Ben and Gus are seasoned hitmen awaiting details of their next target in the basement of a supposedly abandoned cafe. When the dumbwaiter begins sending them mysterious food orders, the killers’ waiting game starts to unravel.

Daniel Mays and David Thewlis star in Harold Pinter’s darkly funny, insidiously menacing The Dumb Waiter.
