2019 Film

1917 – UK Premiere

The world premiere for the film 1917 was held in London last evening. Daniel Mays, who portrays Sgt, Sanders in the film,  was in attendance along with many of the film’s incredibly talented cast. This was the World Premiere and Royal Film Performance, in support of the Film and TV Charity

1917:
Sam Mendes, the Oscar®-winning director of Skyfall, Spectre and American Beauty, brings his singular vision to his World War I epic, 1917.

At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic’s George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones’ Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers—Blake’s own brother among them.

1917 is directed by Sam Mendes, who wrote the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Showtime’s Penny Dreadful). The film is produced by Mendes and Pippa Harris (co-executive producer, Revolutionary Road; executive producer, Away We Go) for their Neal Street Productions, Jayne-Ann Tenggren (co-producer, The Rhythm Section; associate producer, Spectre), Callum McDougall (executive producer, Mary Poppins Returns, Skyfall) and Brian Oliver (executive producer, Rocketman; Black Swan).

The film is produced by Neal Street Productions for DreamWorks Pictures in association with New Republic Pictures. Universal Pictures will release the film in the US in limited release on December 25, 2019 and wide on January 10, 2020. Universal and Amblin Partners will distribute the film internationally, with eOne distributing on behalf of Amblin in the U.K.

You can watch the premiere red carpet event livestream  – look for Danny’s interviews around the 11 minute and 41:30 minute marks.

A few photos from the evening:

It was truly an exciting evening for the cast, crew, and creatives. We wish them all the best as the film hits worldwide beginning Christmas Day in the US and then 10 January 2020 in the UK.

https://www.officialcharts.com/p/26883

Fisherman’s Friends reels in the Number 1 spot on the Official Film Chart, knocking Captain Marvel to second place in what was an extremely close race.

The biographical comedy-drama based around the story of the major label-signed, sea shanty-singing group comes in at the top of the chart. The official soundtrack for the film spent three weeks in the Official Singles Chart Top 40 upon the film’s release in March, becoming the band’s third Top 40 collection.

The second brand new entry this week, on digital downloads only, is Alita: Battle Angel (3); starring Rosa Salazar & Christoph Waltz. Based on a 1990’s manga, it follows a revived, amnesiac cyborg as she sets out on a quest to find out who she was in her past life.

Previous Number 1 Fighting With My Family drops two to Number 4, while Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse hangs on at Number 5. How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World falls two to Number 6.

Thanks to the on-going success of Toy Story 4 in cinemas, the original Toy Story claims a fourth consecutive week in the top tier at 7; Bohemian Rhapsody climbs two to 8; Ant-Man And The Wasp flies 16 to Number 9, and finally, Toy Story 3 drops to Number 10.

Essex Life Magazine – June 2019

The June 2019 issue of Essex Life has a fantastic interview with Daniel Mays.

Versatile actor Danny discusses his time growing up in Essex to his current busy filming schedule. “After 20 years I’m lucky I can gauge a good script and see if it takes me in a different direction, but I’ll always be involved in gritty dramas. It’s part and parcel of who I am.”

Danny mentions the importance of inclusivity of the acting industry: ‘I want there to be a balance of all stories being told. You can have stories about kings and queens and politics, but you also need stories about people living on council estates. That’s not just about actors, but producers, directors, writers. Mike’s (Leigh) not going to be around forever.’

Look for Danny in the upcoming Temple for Sky One later this year as well as films The Rhythm Section, and 1917 early in 2020.

Daniel Mays is currently filming White Lines for Netflix.
