Code 404 Series 2 is Here!

Today is the day! Code 404 premieres at 10PM on Sky Comedy with all episodes available online at Sky and Now TV!

The crime fighting duo of the future, DI Carver (Stephen Graham) and his AI-driven partner DI Major (Daniel Mays), are back!

Unfortunately, there’s still a few bugs to patch out. Having cracked The Juggler case with his long-suffering partner, the resurrected DI Major has finally reached his potential as the top cop in the SIU. But it came at a price. At last realising that his best friend had shacked up with his wife Kelly (Anna Maxwell Martin) while he was “away” (and a bit before), their partnership is over, and the pair go their own ways. But when a 20-year old cold case is reopened, the pair find themselves back together and thrown into the action. With an impending divorce, the return of his long-time absentee dad, and danger around every corner, the pressure seems to be getting to Major and he starts exhibiting strange behavioural glitches. However, much to Carver’s concern, the problems are more serious than a typical reboot can solve, and our cyborg hero may be looking at terminal failure.

Code 404 Series 2 features brand new cast members Meera Syal (Elizabeth Churchland) and Clive Russell (Clifford Major) who will be joining the cast. Alongside Stephen Graham, Daniel Mays and Anna Maxwell Martin, returning cast include Michelle Greenidge (Not Judy), Rosie Cavaliero (Dennett), Richard Gadd (Cleasby) and Amanda Payton (Parfit).

Sky Original, Code 404 series 2, all episodes available 1 September on Sky Comedy and NOW

Code 404 is co-produced by Kudos, part of Banijay UK, and Water & Power Productions and is executive produced by Phil Temple, Tom Miller and Sam Myer. The series was commissioned by Jon Mountague, Director of Comedy at Sky Studios and Zai Bennett, MD of Content at Sky UK & Ireland and was co-funded by Sky Studios.

Code 404 – Series 2

Great news that Sky’s Code 404 series 2 has begun filming this week! Daniel Mays, Stephen Graham, and Anna Maxwell Martin, and co are BACK in their fantastic roles in Sky’s hit comedy series.

Code 404 was recommissioned by Sky for series 2 back in May.

Sky original Code 404, a comedy based on a crime fighting duo and an experimental A.I. project set in the near future, starring Stephen Graham, Daniel Mays and Anna Maxwell Martin, has been renewed for a second series after the first proved to be a breakout hit with audiences.

Code 404 launched on Sky One and streaming service NOW TV on 29 April with a cumulative seven-day audience of 1.9m viewers for the opening episode, making it Sky’s biggest comedy launch in eight years. The show is also Sky’s fastest binged original comedy box set ever, with over 360,000 viewers watching the whole six-episode series before episode 2 aired on linear television.

It’s fantastic to have productions back after the pandemic has put things on hold these past few months. We are assured that the Code 404 production is taking all necessary precautions and listening to advice to keep everyone safe and healthy!

Jon Mountague, Director of Comedy at Sky Studios said: “We’re blown away by the love our customers have shown Code 404. The winning combo of Stephen Graham, Daniel Mays and Anna Maxwell Martin has proven a force to be reckoned with and we’re ecstatic to be working on the second series.

“Code 404 becomes the latest in an exceptionally strong run of original British comedies on Sky One including Brassic 2, Breeders, Intelligence, The Trip, Avenue 5 and Hitmen. We’re privileged to be tickling the UK’s funny bone right now.”

The original comedy, written by Daniel Peak, directed by Al Campbell and produced by Charlotte Surtees, was a hit with critics as well as viewers, receiving five and four star reviews from media whilst being described as “hugely enjoyable” (The Sun) and “inducing tears of laughter” (Radio Times).

Code 404 is the latest in a run of hit original comedies on Sky One launching with 1m+ audiences including Brassic (1.67m), Avenue 5 (1.5m), Bounty Hunters (1.4m), In the Long Run (1.3m), Intelligence (1.2m) and Breeders (1.13m).

Following its debut this spring, the Sky original is already gaining interest from other broadcasters around the world, demonstrating the show’s truly international appeal. Code 404 is set to air in a number of countries including the US, where it will premiere on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, Russia and South Korea. NBCUniversal Global Distribution is handling international distribution on behalf of Sky Studios.

Critical Acclaim for Code 404

  • Radio 5 Live “I haven’t laughed as hard…in a very long time”
  • Radio 2 Zoe Ball “Absolutely hilarious”
  • The SunHugely enjoyable”
  • Radio Times “Inducing tears of laughter”
  • Daily Mirror “An absolute riot”
  • Evening Standard “A gloriously daft police show”

We will have more updates once production is closer to commencing.
