Temple – Premieres 13 September

Just under three weeks to go until Temple premiers on Sky One!

Daniel Mays stars with Mark Strong and Carice van Houten in this darkly comic thriller.

Deep below the streets of London, descending past Temple tube in the beating heart of the city, lies a dark secret. An illegal clinic has been set up in an abandoned subterranean network of tunnels.

Daniel (Mark Strong) is a surgeon driven by personal tragedy to treat anyone who is willing to pay for medical help outside the system. Aided by Lee (Daniel Mays), a disgruntled transport employee, and Anna a guilt-ridden medical researcher, they treat a variety of increasingly desperate and highly dangerous patients, as Daniel’s morality is tested to the limit.

Temple is a story of fate, chaos and consequence and asks how far you would go to save the person you love.

Essex Life Magazine – June 2019

The June 2019 issue of Essex Life has a fantastic interview with Daniel Mays.

Versatile actor Danny discusses his time growing up in Essex to his current busy filming schedule. “After 20 years I’m lucky I can gauge a good script and see if it takes me in a different direction, but I’ll always be involved in gritty dramas. It’s part and parcel of who I am.”

Danny mentions the importance of inclusivity of the acting industry: ‘I want there to be a balance of all stories being told. You can have stories about kings and queens and politics, but you also need stories about people living on council estates. That’s not just about actors, but producers, directors, writers. Mike’s (Leigh) not going to be around forever.’

Look for Danny in the upcoming Temple for Sky One later this year as well as films The Rhythm Section, and 1917 early in 2020.

Daniel Mays is currently filming White Lines for Netflix.

Thanks to Essex Life Magazine for this feature interview with Danny!

Mark Strong (Kingsman), Carice van Houten (Game of Thrones) and Daniel Mays (Line of Duty) will star in the Sky-commissioned thriller series Temple. The high-concept eight-parter, produced by Hera Pictures head Liza Marshall (Riviera), is playwright Mark O’Rowe’s adaptation of the acclaimed Norwegian drama series Valkyrien about the workings of an illegal and subterranean

Strong will star as Daniel, a surgeon who is driven by personal tragedy to treat anyone in his underground London clinic who is willing to pay for medical help outside the system. Aided by Lee (Mays), a disgruntled transport employee, and Anna (van Houten), a guilt-ridden medical researcher, they treat a variety of increasingly desperate and highly dangerous patients, as Daniel’s morality is tested to the limit.

Executive producers are Marshall, Strong and O’Rowe for Hera Pictures and Gabriel Silver and Anne Mensah for Sky. Luke Snellin (Wanderlust) is the lead director, with Shariff Korver (Fenix) and Lisa Siwe (Modus) following; Barney Reisz (Black Mirror) produces. Sky Vision will distribute internationally and co-fund the series, which is being lined up for Sky One in Autumn 2019.

Former Scott Free, Channel4 and Archery Pictures exec Marshall added: “After the success of Riviera, I am thrilled to be working with Sky again on my first production for Hera. I think the audience will love the world of Temple and it’s darkly funny take on life.”
